Veterans Told They Have Fatal Disease, Lou Gehrig's Disease

1200 Veterans were told that they have the fatal Lou Gehrig's disease or ALS.

They were sent a letter telling them of the news. It was an error and the diagnosis was wrong, the letters apparently had a 'coding' error. Veterans and others are outraged as one can imagine the panic of reading a letter from the government that states you have a fatal disease.

According to Kids' Health, "Lou Gehrig's disease damages motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord." The report notes, "Motor neurons are nerve cells that control muscle movement. Upper motor neurons send messages from the brain to the spinal cord, and lower motor neurons send messages from the spinal cord to the muscles. Motor neurons are an important part of the body's neuromuscular system."
