Mischa Barton Taken to Psych Ward

I can't believe Mischa Barton was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center psych ward!

Just hours before she was due to fly to New York for the premiere of her new movie, "Homecoming", Mischa Barton was taken away by police and hospitalized under California's involuntary psychiatric-hold law. Police were called to the actress' home around 3pm Wednesday to assist her with a "medical issue."

Now it has been revealed that cops took her to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she was then hospitalized under Section 5150 of the California Welfare & Institutions Code that allows authorities to hold a person for up to 72 hours if they present a danger to themselves or to others.

At a public appearance last week, Barton was extremely bloated and nearly unrecognizable, which her raps have blamed on the removal of a wisdom tooth.

Last year, the former O.C. star was arrested for DUI and marijuana possession in LA, and later checked into rehab.

Barton's publicist told People magazine that "Police were involved due to Ms. Barton's celebrity status to safely transfer her to medical treatment as per doctor's orders." The rep added that she was now "OK" and "resting."

That still, however, doesn't explain the visit to the psych ward or why she's being held there.
Barton's film, "Homecoming", opens in theaters this week. In the film, which is very reminiscent of 1990's "Misery", she plays the role of Shelby, the former girlfriend of a now-college football player who has an unhealthy obsession with him and becomes enraged when he returns home with a new girlfriend.
